Islamabad: According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), Pakistan has recently reported 12 new cases of the COVID-19 virus in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of confirmed positive cases has surged to 157818 nationwide. Alongside this, the total number of deaths due to coronavirus has crossed 30636.

These recent figures were published by NIH reporting this recent surge in COVID-19 cases. During the last 24 hours, 3062 COVID tests were conducted nationwide. Out of these 2062 tested patients, 12 were found positive for coronavirus. With these numbers, COVID-19 positivity% remained at 0.39%. However, with these new cases being reported, there are no casualties reported in the past 24 hours.

There are still 11 COVID-positive patients in critical care. Before this, there were reports of a new coronavirus variant being spread in China. However, on this, the country's National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) said that this new variant is not a threat anymore and Pakistan is able to deal with the situation efficiently.

Considering the situation, hospitals across the country are on high alert to deal with this recent surge in COVID cases. All government and private hospitals have well-equipped coronavirus facilities to ensure better care for patients suffering from the disease. Some of the private hospitals recognized for their fully equipped coronavirus unit include Hameed Latif Hospital, Ashfaq Memorial Hospital, Bee Well Hospital, etc. Furthermore, Pakistan also intensified COVID screening for international passengers a few days ago.
