According to the data of NIH, Pakistan reported five more deaths because of COVID-19. This leads to a total death count of 30,445.

Amidst the rise in the number of fatalities, Pakistan’s positivity rate has lowered in recent days. The country reports only 492 new infected cases.

In the span of the last 24 hours, the country has performed 20,361 tests. This leads to a positivity rate of 2.42 and the total COVID-19 case count now stands at 1,546,744.

Medical health experts are commenting that with the recent surge of sub-variants and the negligence of SOPs even vaccinated individuals are at threat of contradicting COVID-19.

Out of the total 492 confirmed cases, 169 patients are on bed rest and deemed critical.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus who is the official representative of WHO has said that the recent rise in COVID-19 is very questionable. It is not only concerning for nations but is also stressful for the health systems.

He said that "New waves of the virus demonstrate again that COVID-19 is nowhere near over. As the virus pushes at us, we must push back."

He further went on to say that as the cases are rising governments must act ferociously to tackle the rising numbers. SOPs should also be taken seriously such as mask wearing and improving ventilation.

"The virus is running freely and countries are not effectively managing the disease burden based on their capacity," he said, both in terms of hospitalization of acute cases and the expanding number of people with Long COVID”
