Karachi City Areas Under Smart Lockdown Amid Omicron Surge

In the last 24 hours, a total of 3100 patients have been reported in Sindh while Karachi city stands at 2480. District South took the lead at 822 cases were reported. 

 

The major areas where the lockdown is imposed include the parts of District Central i.e, Gulberg, North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, and North Karachi. This step was taken after 106 new cases were reported in one day. Micro-smart lockdowns were also enforced in localities and streets of Saddar, DHA Phase 2, Clifton Tower, Iqbal Lane, Boat Basin, Civil Lines, and Khayabn-e-Shaheen by the Deputy Commissioner South.

 

A notice has been issued by the Commissioner-Central Taha Saleem that announces lockdown in union committees of North Nazimabad, North Karachi, Gulberg, and Liaquatabad. 

 

Starting from January 22 till 5 February Some of the special areas will be under lockdown as well, including several houses and streets. During this time, the motion of people will be restricted in the hotspot zones.  

 

The District Commissioner's order stated that hotspots have emerged with the spread of Covid-19 in various areas of the district Central, which may lead to a potential public health emergency for general public especially vulnerable high-risk aged population associated with co-morbidities, having the highest mortality ratio and increased susceptibility to requirements for critical care.

 

To reduce the transmission and spread of Covid-19, besides mandatory mask-wearing and social distancing interventions, it is also fundamental to ensure isolation, contact tracing, and testing being three pillars of strategy of the govt for containment of Covid-19,” it said.

 

The Chief Minister said that at this point in time a total of 3108 cases are reported in Sindh out of which 2480 cases have been detected in Karachi.
