KP Govt Begins Month Long COVID Vaccination Drive

Peshawar: KPK Government turns hands on for COVID-19 vaccination drive due to recent search in COVID cases in the province. The expected duration of the vaccination drive is one month. Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr Shahzad Khan Bangash in a recent meeting instructed authorities regarding the campaign.

The recent surge in COVID cases across the province is very alarming. Addressing a meeting regarding the situation, the Chief Secretary gave directions about the vaccination drive. Currently, active COVID cases in KPK have crossed 590. In the past 24 hours, a total of 35 new cases have been reported against 1013 tests performed. The total number of corona recovered patients remains 214059.

Previous statistics say that to date there have been more than 6000 deaths in the province since the virus outbreak happened in the year 2020. Following the COVID outbreak, there were mass immunization programs across the province where most of the population across the province was fully vaccinated. Due to the surge in cases, the KPK Government is all set to begin vaccination again to deal with the surge in cases.

 

The decision was made in a meeting attended by the deputy commissioners, Director General Health Services and Coordinator EOC. In the meeting, Chief Secretary was instructed to ramp up the vaccination cases. The duration of the vaccination drive that started on July 25 is decided to be one month that is most likely to get completed by the end of August.

The Chief Secretary put special emphasis on meeting daily vaccination targets. To achieve these targets, area sorting is done by identifying major areas as public offices, basic health units (BHU), medical teaching institutions (MTI), rural health centres (RHCs) and district headquarters hospitals (DHQs). As per the plan. BHU, RHCs and DHQs will be ensuring vaccination in crowded places across the province including markets and bus stands.

Further, Dr Shahzad Khan Bangash has also instructed the deputy commissions and officials to keep an eye on the vaccination status daily and send him a daily progress report.
