The country plans to ban the young and teens from buying cigarettes. The proper restrictions will be enforced from 2024.

The country is making sure that the young generation aged under 14 will never be allowed to purchase cigarettes from the market. This is the country’s desperate attempt to control the leading cause of preventable death.

The management is also making sure to curb down the number of authorized retailers when it comes to tobacco dealings to cut down the level of nicotine in their products.

Ayesha Verrall who is currently serving the country as the Associate Minister of Health said that:

"We want to make sure young people never start smoking so we will make it an offense to sell or supply smoked tobacco products to new cohorts of youth, If nothing changes, it would be decades till Māori smoking rates fall below 5%, and this government is not prepared to leave people behind."

Smoking is at this present moment, the leading cause of preventable death in New Zealand. The upper management currently has programs to take the Maori Health task in confidence before presenting the proposal in the parliament in the coming year aiming for it to become a part of national legislation.

This is a revolutionary initiative of the current government which aims to reduce the trend of smoking because according to the county’s data, four out of five smokers start before the age of 18.
