Pakistan Hits the Vaccination Milestone of 2021 Amidst Omicron Emergence

WHO has dubbed this variant of covid-19 as the variant of concern. Omicron emerged in November and has become one of the most prominent as well as dominant variants because of its spread rate.

 

Chairman of National Command and Operation Centre Mr. Asad Umar tweeted that in order to make this massive vaccination drive successful the Federal Government has secured vaccines which are worth approx 250 billion.

Islamabad is leading the vaccination count with 77% of its population being vaccinated. Then comes Punjab with 51%, Gilgit Baltistan 46%, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 45%, Balochistan 42%, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 41% and Sindh 37%.

All this sheer dedication and tireless efforts to make sure that a large chunk of the audience is being vaccinated also get an ode from the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan himself.

Experts health panel have warned that Pakistan may be experiencing covid-19 fifth wave in the mid of February because of the ongoing spread rate of the deadly variant.

“Transmission of Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 has started in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad and we fear a rise in COVID-19 cases all over the country in the coming two weeks,"
